December 2024

Hey Trailblazer (yes you)

As we enter this new season, it's easy to get swept up in the excitement of making resolutions. But God calls us to something far deeper than a list of goals. While resolutions often focus on quick fixes, cultivating our God-given potential involves embracing the steady, intentional transformation He has planned for us. In Ephesians 2:10 (NKJV), we're reminded, “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.”

God doesn’t ask us to change overnight. Instead, He invites us into a journey of growth, a gradual unveiling of purpose and strength uniquely designed for us. This is more than a year’s resolution—it’s a lifelong call to impact others and grow closer to Him. Real transformation isn’t about striving to become what we aren’t; it’s about allowing God to shape us into who He’s already called us to be.

In 2025, let’s focus on cultivating our gifts and allowing His Spirit to refine us. Rather than pushing ourselves to meet quick targets, we can ask God to reveal our potential and guide us step-by-step toward the impact He desires. In doing so, we align our lives not with temporary goals but with His eternal vision for us—one that produces a lasting legacy.

May this be the year you take that courageous step, moving beyond resolutions and into the deep, life-giving growth God has planned for you.

Merry Christmas to you and your family!

Beyond Resolutions: Cultivating Your God-Given Potential for Lasting Impact

Another year is coming to a close and we are all making plans for the new year. Although I do not believe in making New Year's resolutions, I understand how they can be instrumental in prompting self-reflection and goal setting. For many, the start of a new year offers a fresh slate, a chance to realign with our aspirations. However, statistics reveal that only about 9% of people actually keep their New Year's resolutions, with most abandoning them by February. This fact underscores the need for a more profound approach—one that goes beyond fleeting commitments and taps into the enduring potential God has placed within us.

The Pitfalls of Resolutions

New Year's resolutions often fail because they are rooted in external motivations rather than internal transformation. James 1:8 (NKJV) warns us that we can be like a double-minded man, unstable in all our ways, when we are not walking in line with God’s expectations. This instability arises when our resolutions are based on societal pressures or fleeting emotions rather than a deep understanding of our God-given purpose. Resolutions that lack a solid foundation in our true potential are like seeds planted in shallow soil; they may sprout quickly but wither just as fast.

Aligning Actions with Potential

Instead of focusing on resolutions, consider creating action-steps that are aligned with your God-given potential. This approach requires introspection, prayer, and a willingness to grow in the areas God has already gifted you. Romans 12:2 (NKJV) exhorts us, "And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God." Transformation, not mere resolution, is the key to cultivating lasting change.

Research shows that individuals who set goals based on their strengths and potential are 34% more likely to achieve them than those who set generic goals. This alignment between who God created you to be and the actions you take can lead to profound growth and fulfillment.

The Power of Intentional Growth

Dr. Myles Munroe emphasized that potential is God’s gift to us, and what we do with it is our gift back to God. He often spoke about the importance of intentional growth—developing the gifts and talents God has placed within us. Philippians 3:13-14 (NKJV) echoes this sentiment: "Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus."

Cultivating your potential means more than setting yearly goals; it involves a daily commitment to grow, learn, and align with God's will. It’s about understanding that your career, relationships, and personal development are all areas where God’s potential in you can be realized.

Why Potential Matters in Your Career

In the professional world, research suggests that individuals who focus on their strengths and potential are 6 times more likely to be engaged at work and 3 times more likely to report an excellent quality of life. This makes sense when we consider that God designed us with specific gifts to fulfill a unique purpose. Ephesians 2:10 (NKJV) reminds us, "For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them."

When we align our careers with our God-given potential, we not only find greater satisfaction but also contribute more effectively to the world around us. This alignment transforms our work from a mere job into a calling, where every task is an opportunity to glorify God and serve others.

A Call to Action

As you reflect on the coming year, I encourage you to move beyond resolutions and focus on cultivating your potential. Ask yourself: What gifts has God placed within me? How can I develop these gifts in a way that honors Him? What steps can I take today to align my actions with the potential God has entrusted to me?

Remember, your potential is a divine deposit, and God is eager to see it yield a great return. As you pursue growth, let the words of 2 Timothy 1:7 (NKJV) guide you: "For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind." Embrace the power, love, and wisdom God has given you, and let them propel you toward the fulfillment of your divine purpose.

May 2025 be a year where you move beyond resolutions and step boldly into the potential God has placed within you, trusting that He will complete the good work He has begun in you.

Inspiration Corner

Vision boards seem to be all the rage, so I challenge you over the next 30 days to set aside some time to create a vision board focused on your spiritual journey and calling. Unlike traditional vision boards that often center on material goals, this one will emphasize areas where you feel God calling you to grow, serve, and impact others. Here’s how to get started:

  1. Pray and Reflect – Start with a time of prayer, asking God to reveal the areas where He wants to shape and guide you this year. Reflect on scriptures that resonate with your calling or growth areas, such as Ephesians 2:10 or Jeremiah 29:11.

  2. Gather Supplies – Find a board or large sheet of paper, along with markers, scissors, glue, and magazines or printed images that represent themes of faith, growth, and service.

  3. Focus On Your Career – Think about the aspects of your career where you’d like to see spiritual growth, like deeper faith, stronger relationships, or a clearer path. Add words, scriptures, or images that represent these areas.

  4. Display and Pray – Place your vision board somewhere visible, and each day, take a few moments to pray over it. Ask God to guide your steps, open doors, and reveal new ways to fulfill His purpose for you.
